How Do I Tell If A Peach is Fresh?
- Check the color-look for a yellow background with no hint of green
- Feel the peach- gently apply pressure to the peach in the palm of your
hand. Peaches ripen at room temperature so they will continue to soften
if they are firm.
How do I put peaches up?
Freezing is easy and convenient.
- Peel and slice the peaches. Use lemon juice or Fruit Fresh to retain color
otherwise they will turn brown. I sprinkle generously with Fruit Fresh
and add about ½ c. sugar to 6 cups and freeze in Zip Lock bags. The
amount of sugar you use is up to you. You may even freeze them without
sugar but you do need to use Fruit Fresh. When using your peaches,
remember you have already added sugar so you probably will not need
the amount the recipe calls for. If you are diabetic, you can use Splenda.
- Some people like to freeze the whole peach in a large Zip Lock. You take
it out, run warm water over it to remove the peel and slice it. It is like
eating a cool, fresh peach.
