Peach Facts
To determine if a peach is ripe:
Check the color for a yellow background with no hint of green.
Peaches ripen at room temperature, so they will continue to soften if they are firm.
Feel the peach by applying pressure (gently) to the peach
in the palm of your hand. It should give a little.
How do I preserve my fresh peaches?
Freezing is easy and convenient. It will allow you
to enjoy a bit of summer all year.
- Peel and slice the peaches. Use lemon juice or Fruit Fresh to retain color
otherwise they will turn brown. Sprinkle generously with Fruit Fresh and add about
about ½ c. sugar to 6 cups of peaches and freeze in zipper freezer bags.
- The
amount of sugar you use is up to you.
- You may even freeze them without
sugar but you do need to use Fruit Fresh.
- When using your peaches,
remember you have already added sugar
so you probably will not need
the amount the recipe calls for.
- If you are diabetic, you can use Splenda.
- Some people like to freeze the whole peach in a large freezer bag.
- Take
it out, run warm water over it to remove the peel and slice it.
- It is almost like
eating a cool peach, fresh from the tree!
